This dynamic parent duo has devoted countless hours of time as School No. 28 PTA members and officers, classroom volunteers, and School Based Planning Team members over the last five years.

Darlene and Amy have volunteered many hours and ideas on behalf of the PTA, including initiating the Birthday Book program in which every child gets a book for a birthday present. Last year, they constructed a huge pirate ship in the front hall of the school to greet visiting Rochester notables who came in to share "The Treasure of Good Books" with students. Amy and Darlene's spirit and enthusiasm for improving our school and increasing parent participation is in evidence everywhere.

Their commitment to our school PTA has led them to become board members of the Genesee Valley Regional PTA. Darlene is program chair of Reflections, the PTA's annual arts competition, and Amy chairs the Parents as Reading Partners program, geared to increase at-home reading for students. 

Amy has two children at School No. 28 (Haley and Michael) and Darlene has one at School No. 28 (Derek) and one at School of the Arts (Dylan). These women can be seen in school all the time, accompanying teachers on field trips, assisting in classrooms, and being available whenever called upon for last minute tasks. They are role models for parents supporting our schools, not just for their own kids’ education but for the education of all children!
