School No. 1 Students To Participate in “Worldwide Day of Play”

Students from Rochester’s School No. 1, 85 Hillside Avenue, will be running, jumping and playing tomorrow as part of a worldwide fitness program known as the Worldwide Day of Play. The event will take place at the school from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

More than 50 students from the school will be participating in orienteering, games of tag, and carnival games and will receive a lesson in self defense.

Sponsored by Nickelodeon, the event is part of the “Let’s Just Play” campaign intended to help reduce obesity among children. All schools participating in the Day of Play are eligible to apply for one of 25 grants of $5,000 which Nickelodeon is offering to help schools purchase physical education equipment. If it is selected for one of the grants, School No. 1 would like to purchase cross-country skis and gymnastics mats, among other items.
