NEWS RELEASE – ROCHESTER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Several schools in the Rochester City School District will be under new leadership this year.
“The Rochester City School District recognizes the important role that school principals play in the education and well-being of our students,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. William C. Cala. “That is why we work hard to match the strengths and experience of our administrators with the unique needs of our schools and their students. We are proud of our new principal appointments and confident in the strong leadership these individuals bring to our schools.”
The following new principals have been announced:
Miriam Miranda-Jurado
Dag Hammarskjold School No. 6
Ms. Miranda-Jurado’s 18-year career as an educator in Rochester followed several years as a teacher in Central America. She is experienced in bilingual education as well as school administration, having served as both an elementary and secondary school administrator including vice principal of School No. 8 and principal of School No. 46. Most recently, she was principal-on-assignment leading the bilingual program at Monroe High School.
Mary Aronson
Bioscience & Health Careers High School at Franklin
Dr. Aronson returns to the Rochester City School District after five years as assistant principal of Penfield High School. Her career in Rochester began in 1989 and has included teaching and administrative positions with the Tutoring Services Program, Bilingual Education Department/ESOL, Student Evaluation & Testing, and Edison Technical & Occupational Education Center.
Beverley Pringle
East High School
Dr. Pringle comes to Rochester from North Carolina where she was an assistant principal in large secondary schools in the Union County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and Cumberland County school districts. In addition to her administrative experience, she also has taught high school language arts, social studies, and African/Asian studies and done extensive research in high school outcomes for African-American students.
Vicky Ramos
Monroe High School
Ms. Ramos has an 18-year career with the Rochester City School District. She began as a foreign language teacher at the former Frederick Douglass Middle School and also served as the District’s Director of Foreign Language. She has also been a school administrator both at Douglass and at Monroe High School, most recently serving as acting principal of Frederick Douglass Preparatory School.
Linda Kantor
School of Engineering & Manufacturing at Edison
Ms. Kantor has a solid background and understanding of vocational education and the small schools concept. Her 21-year career in Rochester includes serving as principal of the Bioscience & Health Careers High School at Franklin, academy director at Frederick Douglass Preparatory School, teacher at Monroe High School, and coordinator of the School of International Studies at Monroe.
Deasure Matthew
Wilson Magnet High School Foundation Academy
Ms. Matthew is well known to the Wilson community for her leadership and work with students over the past nine years. A teacher and administrator in Rochester for 17 years, she was Academy Director at the Foundation Academy at Wilson from 2005 to 2007. She has also served as house administrator, International Baccalaureate program coordinator, and assistant principal at Wilson.
Ms. Barbara Hasler will continue as principal of Wilson’s Commencement Academy. |
