NEWS RELEASE – ROCHESTER CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Date: September 13, 2007
The Rochester City School District will hold a public hearing on two proposals before the New York State Board of Regents regarding local charter schools.
The hearing will be held Tuesday, September 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the District’s Central Office, 131 West Broad Street, in the third-floor conference room.
The hearing will precede the Rochester Board of Education’s monthly business meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Board of Regents has received an application to establish the Rochester Academy Charter School and another to establish an after-school academic program at the Urban Choice Charter School. Although charter schools operate independently of the school district, State law requires the school district to hold hearings in connection with charter school applications.
Charter schools are privately operated schools that are publicly funded.
