A weekend of activities designed to empower families and youth to put an end to violence in the community will take place August 17-19.
Violence Prevention Weekend is sponsored by the Rochester City School District, City of Rochester, and a consortium of community agencies.
It will take place at three locations:
Friday, August 17
Wilson Magnet High School
501 Genesee Street
7:00-9:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 18
Wilson Foundation Academy
200 Genesee Street
8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 19
High Falls Festival Site
4 Commercial Street
12:00-6:00 p.m.
The event will include a candlelight vigil, community parade, Wall of Life ceremony, town meeting, youth summit, and Hip Hop Peace Fest. There will also be workshops, activities for children and families, entertainment, raffles, and resources to help youth live violence-free lives.
Guest speakers will be Kemba Smith, whose personal story illustrates the consequences of bad life choices and the power to change, and Dr. Kenneth Hardy, a Syracuse University professor internationally known for his work in family therapy and diversity.
