RCSD NEWS RELEASE
Date: March 3, 2008
Rochester Superintendent of Schools Jean-Claude Brizard will be on hand to welcome the delivery of coats to John Williams School No. 5, 555 Plymouth Avenue North, on Tuesday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m.
The delivery will take place at the school’s gym entrance on Verona Street. (From Plymouth, turn left on Smith Street, pass the parking lot, and turn left on Verona, a one-way street. Gym entrance is second on the left.)
Well over 2,000 coats and hundreds of boots, hats, gloves and scarves were donated by the community in response to a call for winter items for city students issued February 13 by Superintendent Brizard and Mayor Robert Duffy.
Volunteers of America, 314 Lake Avenue, volunteered to be the collection point for donated items. VOA staff and community volunteers including city students sorted and packed the items for delivery.
Hundreds of boxes divided into boys’ and girls’ items were packed and loaded on pallets. VOA trucks are delivering the items to city schools today and tomorrow. |
