  • Grade 4: ELA Listening & Learning: Module 3A: Considering Perspectives and Supporting Opinions

    Title:  Simple Machines: Force and Motion
     
    Description:  Students used Comic Life software to produce pages reflecting knowledge they gained from Grade 4 Common Core Module 3A about Simple Machines.

    Teacher:

    Process:
    Students were investigating 6 types of simple machines. They chose their favorite and did a further research regarding  their choice. 
    The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project.  It took about 4 hour long sessions for students to understand the idea of writing a dialogue and create  pages of the report.  Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring  their projects using Smart Response File. Students really liked the idea of animation by creating a dialogue with a simple machine.

  • Phantom of the Opera

    Title: Phantom of the Opera
     
    Description:   5th Grade Collaborative Project with Touring Cast of Phantom of the Opera

    Teacher: 
    Jason Forrd, # 35 School

    Process:
    An in-depth, focused study incorporating current technological communication to facilitate a unique yearlong relationship between the touring cast of Phantom of the Opera and intermediate aged students. Throughout the school year, each partnering classroom will be connected to a Phantom cast member and maintain written communication through email and social media to enhance collaborative efforts between the production and classroom in giving students a multi-faceted experience to create a  complete understanding of theatre, culminating in attending a performance of Phantom. In addition to this communication, students will have multiple interdisciplinary classroom activities, which will also utilize local community resources.

  • Grade 6: Social Studies: Unit 3: Early Civilizations: Chapter 3: The Ancient Israelites

    Title:  Unit 3: Early Civilizations: Chapter 3: The Ancient Israelites
     
    Description:    Students used Comic Life software to create reports about Laws, Rules, Style of Life and Famous People of Ancient Israel.

    Teacher: 
    Dr. Rutland, # 35 School
    Process:
    After learning about Ancient Israel students  did some research and created their own pages in Comic Life about Laws, Life Style or Famous People of Ancient Israel.  The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project.  It took about 4 hour long sessions for students to create  pages of the report.  Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring  their projects using Smart Response File.

    Title:  ELA:Module 3A: Considering Perspectives and Supporting Opinions Through Creating Fables
     
    Description:   At school #9, students will develop an ability to communicate through written expression to inform and entertain through a fable

    Teacher: 
    Matthew Hess, # 9 School

    Process:
    Students produced a fable that teaches an important life lesson during the ELA classes. Students were instructed to include character development or a change that this character might have experienced.  Each fable was supposed to have a beginning, a middle part, and a conclusion.  First students worked with a graphic organizer and inputted the main elements of the fable.  Then students wrote the fable itself. Finally they worked with Comic Life to add pictures, graphics to their stories.

    Title:  Conducting Research on Colonial Trades
     
    Description:    Students used Comic Life software to produce pages reflecting knowledge they gained from Grade 4 Common Core Module 2A about Colonial America tradesman.

    Process:
    After learning about Colonial Times students chose the trade they wanted to become experts in.  They did some research and created their own pages in Comic Life.  The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project.  It took about 4 hour long sessions for students to learn Comic Life software and create  pages of the report.  Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring  their projects using Smart Response File. Students really liked the hand on project, as well as learning about Colonial America in a fun and creative way using technology.

    Title:  Our Trip to Egypt
     
    Description:    Students used Comic Life software to create reports about mummies, pyramids, Egyptian writing, and famous pharaohs  for the Ancient Egypt Unit

    Teacher:

    Process:
    Students were assigned to a group to research a specific topic.  They worked as a group on research and created their own pages in Comic Life.  The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project.  It took about 5 forty minute sessions for students to learn Comic Life software and create  pages of the report.  Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring  their projects using Smart Response File.

    Students were allowed to pick a mythological creature to write a report.  The teacher used a Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project.  It took about 5 forty minute sessions for students to learn Comic Life software and create 5 pages of the report.  Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring  their projects using Smart Response File.
