This summer, every student is encouraged to enjoy reading with their families. 30 minutes per day. Every day. You can read any title you choose and read as often as you like. Age appropriate reading lists in english and spanish give families a great place to start! 
Summer Reading for Grades K-12
The 2016 Summer Reading Initiative for grades K-12 provides Rochester City School students with a list of engaging book titles to read over the summer months. Each student is encouraged to visit their local library, using their grade appropriate list as a guide, and read all summer long. All grade levels can win some great prizes this summer for participating online or at their local library.

How do I participate?
  • Visit your local library branch for easy access to books, videos, computers, wi-fi, and more!
  • Using your grade level list as a guide and choose a book that you'd like to read. You can also read the free books you received at your school’s book fair or selections from your home library.
  • Enjoy your book!
Elementary Students (K-6):
  • Complete the assigned reading log, then bring it to your local library for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. 
Secondary Students (7-12):
  • Participate in an Online Discussion Board with your friends:

More Reading Opportunities
This summer, please visit a branch of the Monroe County or Rochester Public Libraries and sign up for a library card. It's free and easy. Check with your local branch to see what events and programs are scheduled throughout July and AugustVisit www.libraryweb.org for a schedule. City recreation centers may also host reading programs which make good fun while you're on summer recess.
How Can I Help?
Parents, staff, and community members who would like to lend support to our Summer Reading initiative can do so in the way of volunteerism, book donations, and other types of assistance in our summer learning programs. If you are interested in lending your support, please contact us.
