The National Academy Foundation celebrated it's 30 year anniversary in Washington DC this past July (2012). We had a couple of wonderful events planned for us as administrators, teachers, staff and students made our way to the Marriott Wardman in the heart of our nation's capital#
First off, our principal, Kathleen Denaro, actual spoke at one of the sessions about our school, STEM, began it's mission to open as a NAF school and begin offering quality education within the Rochester City School district. NAF educators from across the country came to listen about STEM and ask questions. As distinguished as that was, it was not the highlight. Arnie Duncan, the United States Secretary of Education, who works directly with President Barack Obama, spoke to all of the NAF affiliates that came. But that still isn't our favorite moment. One of Rochester STEM High School's own students, Joseph Foster III, was the closing speaker to the entire NAF celebration participants.
