Shed Design/Build Project
We wrapped up our Shed Design/Build Project in partnership with Alfred State University and Habitat for Humanity. Through working with these partners, and a donation of materials, our students in the Construction, Architecture, and Design pathway met the challenge of designing and building sheds from concept and design through construction and finish work. Each shed is different, as you can see.
Habitat for Humanity and Alfred State picked the first place shed – that design will be used in the future to build additional sheds for Habitat families. One shed was auctioned off at Habitat’s annual fundraiser for $1,200 – the rest will go to Habitat houses over the next couple of weeks. Our students presented their sheds well . They brought respect to not only themselves – but to Edison and the entire district. Our partners were impressed by our students’ and teachers’ work.
I especially want to recognize the following teachers for their dedication to the project. It wasn’t easy – and I dare say we learned just as much as our students.
Chad Yapjoco – Electrical
Scott Moore and Dennis Knab – Carpentry
Rich Schmitt – Masonry
Ashley Dermody and Thomas Talone – Architecture and Design
Jeremy Boehlke – Work Based Learning (partner coordination).
