School No. 36 is located at the intersection of St. Jacob Street and Bernard Street at Carter Street. We are committed to creating a safe, rigorous educational environment that supports and promotes each student’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth and development. Staff, students, parents and community partners work together, sharing the responsibility of creating a student body of lifelong learners whose unique abilities and talents are valued and nurtured. This allows each student the opportunity to achieve to his or her highest academic potential.
- Literacy focus is supported through programs such as Accelerated Reader, 100 Book Challenge, Reading First, and Computer Lab.
- Character development is supported through Olweus Bullying Prevention and EAGLE Rules which support a positive school environment.
- Peer mediation and conflict resolution strategies are woven into daily, weekly and monthly events.
- Has computers and internet access in all classrooms, computer room and library.
- After-school tutoring and extended-day opportunities include instructional support, partnership with YMCA 21st Century Learning and conflict resolution with the Center for Youth Services.
- Service Learning allows students to learn through projects linking school and community to meet community needs.
- Offers special support services in reading, speech/language, ESOL (for speakers of other languages), and occupational/physical therapy.
- Student activities include Girl Power Girls’ Club, Intermediate Choir, Safety Patrol, Color Guard, Step Team and Instrumental Band.
- Has numerous community partners including service organizations, area colleges, health and human service agencies, faith-based organizations, YMCA, and Foster Grandparent Program.
- Offers a variety of parent workshops through Parent-Teacher Organization; keeps parents up to date on school activities through monthly newsletters and informational flyers. Parent room available for conferences and parent activities.
