Student Leadership Congress Minutes 10/07

First off I would like to THANK everyone for their presence last night!

Introduction

  • A basic overview of what SLC is about, our mission, past success and future goals

  • We were impressed by the number of student representatives from campuses such as Monroe, Wilson, East, BioScience @ Franklin, School of the Arts, Freddie Thomas, and Charlotte.

Important Information to Remember
Next Meeting date is November 7, 2007 @ Central Office; the only change will be the room that we host the meeting in. However, there will be signs posted to guide you and guests to the correct room.

  • DO NOT forget about the parent consent form for the Community Service

  • Seniors, please bring forms if you need Tom to sign them in advance

  • Mention the Winter Warmth project to peers and others

  • As an SLC member it is your job to spread the word about SLC (Use the flier inside folder, mention Teen Empowerment)

  • Keep in mind that I would like to keep track of what is going on in OUR SCHOOLS, so feel free to e-mail me interesting things/events that are going on in your school. (The next board meeting is October 18, 2007)

  • If interested in getting involved in Students First Television Show, visit Central Office on Wednesdays @ 3:00 p.m. (Sarah serves as Students First news anchor along with a couple of other students in the district)

Winter Warmth - A project constructed by members of SLC, we would like it to begin in beginning /middle November.

  • A community service project to collect winter new or barely used garments such as coats, hats , sweaters, scarves, thermals, mittens/gloves, new socks

  • Boxes will be set in schools /Posters will be distributed and posted in schools.

Personal Tasks
Commonly after each meeting a group of people will leave with a certain assignment that they have either been asked to do or personally volunteered to do. (Please keep in mind you may be asked to do some extra work if necessary.) Therefore…

  • Richard from Monroe is creating a poster for Winter Warmth

  • I myself will have a letter to principals, requesting permission to conduct the Winter Warmth project in our schools, by the end of this weekend

  • Hannah is working on getting large boxes

  • Everyone has the task of getting the word out (Participation makes a TEAM)

  • Once you review my letter then you will talk to your principal and let me know the outcome

Issues we need to decide on ASAP!

  • What organization are we donating the clothes to?

  • How will we sort through clothes if we choose more than one organization?

  • The exact dates that this will be taking place (start date until end date)

  • I HAVE TO STRESS THE FACT THAT WE COMMUNICATE THROUGH E-MAIL- so it is always important that everyone responds

FYI- It would be nice to decorate the boxes, so if students could help we would kindly appreciate it. Further notice will be announced of date and time.

-Keep in touch

Sincerely,
