The Rochester City School District and the Board of Education are committed to helping parents engage in the six types of involvement outlined by the National Network of Partnership Schools and endorsed by the National PTA”
- Parenting. Establish a home environment that supports children as students.
- Communicating. Communicate with school staff regularly about school programs and your child’s progress.
- Volunteering. Support your child’s school in its programs and activities.
- Learning at home. Help your child with homework and school decisions and provide opportunities for continued learning.
- Decision-making. Become involved in the decision-making body at your child’s school and consider leadership opportunities.
- Collaborating with community. Use resources and services from the community to strengthen family practices and student learning and development.
No Child Left Behind requires that districts provide information to parents about a variety of education related issues. Many of these notifications are provided in letters sent directly to parents at their home

Just as a reminder: There are many ways that parents can be engaged at their child’s school as a partner in their child’s education. This includes participating at school events, on school governance committees such as PTA/PTO (Parent-Teacher Association/Organizations) and School-Based Planning Teams, in the classroom, and by providing supports for a child’s learning at home. We encourage parents to talk with their child’s teacher and principal about these opportunities.
