In February 2000, Rochester’s Wilson Magnet High School became the first school in Monroe County and the fourth public high school in New York State authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate program.
Using aspects of the best educational systems in the world, the rigorous IB curriculum encourages critical analysis, research skills, and service as part of the learning process. Student performance is determined by assessments administered by both local teachers and international examiners. Graduates of the program are considered for enrollment at the world’s top universities and are eligible for up to a full-year’s worth of college credit.
Wilson offers the Pre-IB Honors Program for students in grades 9 and 10 and the IB Diploma Program for students in grades 11 and 12.

A Top-Ranking High School
In May 2006, Wilson was named one of the top schools in the country by Newsweek based on the magazine’s “Challenge Index,” which measures the level of IB and Advanced Placement (AP) test participation in each school. Wilson was ranked 24th in the nation, ahead of three Monroe County suburban schools. Previously, Wilson was ranked 27th (2005), 56th (2003), and 143rd (2000). |
