Commissioner's 'Museum on Wheels' rolls into Wilson Commencement
A
history lesson with a modern twist – presented via music videos - was
unveiled for students at Wilson Commencement Academy, 501 Genesee Street,
on Wednesday, February 27.
Inside a 1957 bus restored to replicate the bus made famous by Rosa Parks
in Montgomery, Ala., Board Vice President Van Henri White discussed with
students the importance of the Civil Rights movement and the role they
play in society today. The bus, owned by Mr. White's Center for the Study
of Civil and Human Rights Law on Grove Street, includes informational
signs about important historical dates; signs designating "white" and
"colored" seating; and has been modernized with technology. The center
plans to provide similar tours to students throughout Monroe County. |
